Statement by Mike Litt, U.S. PIRG Consumer Campaign Director, on the Senate Banking Committee’s approval of the nomination of Kathy Kraninger for Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

“The Director of the Consumer Bureau is tasked with making consequential decisions that could mean the difference between families achieving the American dream or falling into financial ruin.

The full Senate should confirm a nominee with expertise in consumer protection and experience in enforcing consumer banking laws. Further, any nominee should support the Consumer Bureau’s mission: protecting consumers. Kathy Kraninger showed during her confirmation hearing that she fails to meet these minimum standards.”
