Kara Cook-Schultz is U.S. PIRG's toxics program director. Based in Denver, Kara works to build the organizing power necessary to keep toxic chemicals out of the homes, neighborhoods, and communities of everyday Americans.

Prior to joining U.S. PIRG's Toxics team, Kara worked on the 2014 and 2016 elections, serving as a canvass director for Colorado Fair Share Action to help elect candidates who stick up for working families. She was also the recruitment director for The Public Interest Network, where she helped connect activists and organizers with nonprofit jobs. From 2010-2014, she worked in eastern Colorado on anti-fracking and anti-pesticide civil actions. In 2009, she was an intern for the NRDC and for the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association.

Kara graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2007 with a B.A. in political science, and from University College-Dublin in 2008 with an M.Phil in literature.
